Scholarship History

Chatfield Senior High School Football Scholarhip
This scholarship represents the involvement of the entire Beaty family in Chatfield Senior High. They have been a part of Chatfield Senior High since its beginning. Coach was a member of the Core Team, which planned the opening of the school, and he was the first head football coach and chair of the Physical Education Department. In addition he was the head coach for the girls and boys golf teams. He continued to teach and coach at Chatfield Senior until his retirement in 2000. Additionally, other family members were involved: wife Mary served as chair of the English Department and brother-in-law Don Jones was chair of the Guidance Counseling Department. Both children, Shaun and Cindy, graduated from Chatfield along with Greg Chicota (son-in-law), Scott Jones (nephew), Kelly Jones Kaye (niece) and Neil Harris (Foundation Board Member). Shaun, Scott and Neil played football for Coach. Cindy was a member of the golf team for four years and was a member of the first district championship team. The Chatfield Football Hall of Fame and school field is named in Coach’s honor.

Tucson, Arizona Area
After his retirement, Coach Beaty enjoyed a second home in Tucson, Arizona, spending most days on the golf course. Foundation Board Member Neil Harris’ family also resides in Tucson, so the Foundation has extended the All Sports Scholarship to student athletes in that area.

Doug Tewell Golf Scholarship
The Doug Tewell scholarship was created by Coach Beaty in 2008 and is now awarded by the Foundation to honor his close friend Doug Tewell, who is a Champions Tour and PGA Tour Champion. Doug is an outstanding individual and role model demonstrated by his strength of character, athletic accomplishments, contributions to his community, and support of education.

All Sports Scholarships: Colorado and Arizona
Coach Beaty never met a sport he did not like. During his career, he coached seven different sports.  The Foundation recognizes his career by providing scholarships to student/athletes who have lettered in any high school sport.
